Miss List...Lima

Things I’m going to miss about Lima

  • The waterfront. The feeling of being near water, the sound of it, the breeze, the views - none of it ever gets old. As I mentioned about my time in Split (see By The Sea) my daydream about where I would live in the world always involves living near water. There is no place I’d rather be. So, it’s no surprise that some of my best months and favorite cities this year have been ones on the water.

  • The sunsets. Insta-worthy, unforgettable beauties, with some of the most vibrant colors I've ever seen.

  • Our apartment. It was a fabulous apartment in an excellent location near all my daily needs. Bonus that it had a view I won’t forget.

  • The food. I wasn’t kidding when I said Lima is for eaters. Come hungry and go home happy. Not only was the quality of food outstanding, but there was a lot of variety which was a welcome change of pace after Argentina.

  • Tutto. That’s right a grocery store made the list, that’s how good it was! After months of making it work at glorified convenience stores it was a treat to have the luxury of options.

  • Gaby. She and her signature joy added so much to my experience in Lima.

  • The way Lima made me feel - alive with possibility and up for anything.

Things I won’t miss about Lima

  • Buying water. Lima was the third city this year with non potable water. You don’t realize how much water you drink until you have to carry it home. You naturally end up drinking less. Not to mention the plastic waste. It makes me all the more grateful when I can take it straight from the tap.

  • The traffic. Lima is a big city (9.75 million) and has big city traffic. During rush hour forget the Uber and get to stepping - you’ll get there faster on foot.
